[ti:US Lawmakers Charge Trump with Abuse of Office, Obstruction][by:shang05.com][00:00.00]更多听力请访问shang05.com[00:00.16]The impeachment process against the president of the United States[00:05.64]took another step forward Tuesday in the U.S. House of Representatives.[00:13.60]Leading members of the House announced two articles of impeachment[00:18.84]against President Donald Trump.[00:22.24]The charges include abuse of office for personal political gain[00:28.68]and blocking -- or obstructing -- the congressional impeachment investigation.[00:36.48]The Democratic Party controls the House of Representatives.[00:41.12]Trump is a member of the Republican Party,[00:44.84]It was only the fourth time in the 243-year history of the United States[00:53.96]that impeachment charges have been brought against a president.[00:58.96]None of those earlier actions resulted in a president's removal from office.[01:05.60]And Republican lawmakers seem unlikely to support Trump's ouster.[01:13.24]House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler will head the panel[01:19.04]that will first consider the impeachment articles.[01:23.12]He said Tuesday that Trump threatened national security[01:27.92]and the 2020 election process by withholding military aid to Ukraine.[01:35.36]Trump "sees himself as above the law," Nadler added.[01:41.48]"He consistently puts himself above the country."[01:46.48]House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff led the weeks-long impeachment inquiry.[01:54.04]He called the accusations against the U.S. leader "overwhelming and uncontested."[02:02.36]But Trump has said he did nothing wrong,[02:05.80]and none of his Republican supporters in Congress[02:10.00]has called for his impeachment and removal from office.[02:15.76]Before the articles were announced, Trump criticized the case against him.[02:22.00]"To Impeach a President who has proven through results,[02:25.84]including producing perhaps the strongest economy in our country's history,[02:31.84]to have one of the most successful presidencies ever, and most importantly,[02:37.96]who has done NOTHING wrong, is sheer Political Madness!" Trump wrote.[02:44.52]His message appeared on Twitter.[02:47.72]Trump added that the president and foreign minister of Ukraine[02:52.68]"said, many times, that there WAS NO PRESSURE.[02:56.16]Nadler and the Dems know this, but refuse to acknowledge!" he wrote.[03:01.72]Perhaps the most important part of the case against Trump concerns his effort[03:08.52]and that of his aides to get Ukraine to investigate former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.[03:17.16]At the same time, the president was withholding $391 million in military aid to Ukraine.[03:26.40]The country wanted to help fight pro-Russian separatists in the country's east.[03:34.20]Nadler said his panel will consider the accusations in the next few days,[03:40.24]possibly voting on the articles of impeachment by the end of the week.[03:45.80]That would clear the way for a simple majority vote in the House next week,[03:52.12]when Trump is likely to become the third U.S. president to be impeached.[03:58.44]He would then stand trial in the Republican-majority Senate in January.[04:05.00]I'm Caty Weaver. 更多听力请访问shang05.com
